Timeline for the College Admissions Process
Form V
- Study, as grades go on the permanent transcript
- Explore extracurricular interests and volunteer work
- Pursue reading interests and keep a log of outside reading
- Visit college campuses, as is convenient for families
- Take Biology AP exam and/or SAT Subject Test in Biology, as appropriate
Form VI
- Take PSAT in October
- Evaluate PSAT results in Dec. to determine need for further preparation
- College counselors outline the overview of college application process, criteria for college acceptance and standardized testing
- Begin browsing the internet and books for college information
- Take AP exams in May and/or SAT subject tests, as appropriate
- Make productive use of summer
- Visit college campuses, as convenient for families
Form VII
- Fall: Attend class meeting with college counselor: how to benefit from College Night and visits with college representatives
- Attend College Night at Jesuit
- Meet with college representatives at Cistercian
- Take the PSAT in October
- Spring: Meet individually with college counselor to determine individual criteria for choosing a college and possible colleges
- Schedule college campus visits on extended weekends and vacations
- Parents may schedule individual meetings with college counselor
- Students take standardized testing, March-June (SAT, Subject Tests, ACT, AP)
- Students begin personal writing in preparation for college essays
- Students begin to formulate a resume
- Summer: Make productive use of summer
- Work on college essays, resume
- Get on mailing lists of colleges (via web, or sending test scores to colleges)
- Visit colleges
Form VIII
- Attend College Night
- Meet with college representatives at Cistercian
- Meet regularly with college counselor to go over list of colleges, Early Action/ Early decision deliberations, application details, essays, activities, teacher recs., etc.
- File all applications by Dec. 15th.
- January - File financial aid forms (FAFSA, PROFILE, etc.)
- May 1st - National reply date for regular decision and early action
